show-related things you all need to ALSO be doing:
1) show PR
designate someone as your 'PR' person who needs to get a draft of a short press release to me by the 10th to edit and forward to the gallery for release about your show to local media. you can get everyone's name which you can off of our blog [image can be the poster]
from the SOA website:
Provide the Gallery with the following: The title of your BFA exhibition, a one-paragraph description of the work, the name(s) of the artist(s), the dates exhibiting, plus one digital image at 300 dpi two weeks prior to your opening date. This information will be used in a press release to local arts papers and venues on behalf of the exhibiting artists and the gallery.
2) brass linoleum nails
designate someone to pick up 4-5 packs of these are Normaltown hardware on Prince Ave. Pay cash and bring me the receipt. I will reimburse you.
3) show signage
How are you going to do this? If you want vinyl, I will need [vector] files for the show title (and/ or names). I must send this off by april 13. you can call the show '2007 BFA Graphic Design Show' or 'Oh, Rapture! bfa gd....blah blah' or whatever you want. Two flat colors max.
4) show labeling
I need one big clean Word file with copy for all labels. i am happy to set them up and print them out, etc/ but you are responsible for compilation. So come up with a plan for getting this organized and sending me ONE file total for everyone by Monday April 20.
It should all be formatted in the following manner:
Title of piece* [not including client/project name repeated here unless necessary]
Your name [repeat this everytime, don't give it to me once at the top]
note that name is second
* make clear when things are unfolded, etc.
examples:
Exhibition Poster
Print Advertising or
[what kind of] Ad
Package Design
Self Promotional Materials
Collateral Materials
Newsletter
Catalogue Interior Spread
Contents and Department Pages
Identity System
Brochure
Promotional Publication
Web Site [two words]
Magazine Cover
Magazine Story Spread
DO NOT: use tabs, extraneous spaces or returns.
Note if you need multiples of the same label [like if you are showing 3 spreads of the same story, they'd all just use the same label]
ALSO: objective statement/project description
2-4 sentences, well-written, that describes your project and the design problem you set out to solve, including a few details about your 'client.'
5) exhibition plan
i will assign exhibition spaces after i get an idea of the scope/size that everyone's work requires. after that point do a little math and design yourself an exhibition plan due to me Mon the 20th.
6) printing and hanging posters
kenny and i will deal with getting them printed. they need to be hung by Monday the 13th. You can hang them during class time that day if need be.
7) opening food, etc.
your thing.
also let me know who's responsible for all these tasks.
